how the practice works.

In order to share this practice with others in a meaningful way, an open container must be created. And then the yoga will do what it does. This is how the practice works. We are reminded every time we step on the mat that the path is sometimes unpleasant and lacks tidiness. This is where we bump up against the discomfort of our one-dimensional attachments and status quo expectations.

The practice offers a wide-angle view to more clearly observe the "flash of pleasure" coping mechanisms at play in our lives, and then invites the larger opportunity to sit with the not-havingness, to allow the contradiction, and to embrace - with tenderness and grace - "what is."

A heart filled with grace knows and trusts that a way will be made, empowering us to take that next courageous step again and again. Moving toward trustfulness, kindness, compassion, peace, and wholeness.

All we need to do is keep showing up.

VINYASA YOGA

“Vinyasa” is derived from the Sanskrit term nyasa, which means “to place,” and the prefix vi, “in a special way.”  It is a style of yoga that links mindful movement and intentional breath to attain balance in the mind and body and a deep spiritual connection. The flowing, creative, and devotional nature of the practice unfolds with an inherent harmony and intelligence as it takes a step-by-step approach to safely and systematically transitioning from one posture to the next through a series of seated, standing, and floor-based postures.  Because each movement is synchronized with the power of inhalation and exhalation, vinyasa yoga is a dynamic, invigorating, and sometimes challenging practice which has a soothing effect on all the systems of the body.  Our heart-centered teachers are comfortable teaching to multiple levels of practitioners and are experts at offering safe, knowledgeable, and consistent instruction and modifications to both beginners and longtime practitioners. Optional opportunities may also be offered to explore deeper expressions and more challenging variations of the physical postures to build strength and stability, improve balance, and connect to the breath.

"Vinyasa yoga teaches us to cultivate an awareness that links each action to the next—on the mat and in our lives."

The world needs more heart...maybe now more than ever.

Bhakti Yoga, the second of the Four Paths of Yoga, is the pathway of yoga often called "Yoga of the Heart" or the "Path of Devotion" as it focuses on seeing the Divine (in whatever form we like, or as formless) in all things.

Bhakti Flow is a non-sectarian spiritual practice that focuses on the whole being – the body, mind and heart. A rejuvenating, soulful, devotional, and dynamic physical yoga practice which blends the principles of hatha vinyasa yoga (the union of body, breath, and movement) and the qualities of bhakti yoga (gratitude, open-heartedness, humility, compassion, and devotion).

Variations of pranayama (breathwork), japa meditations, mantra chanting, yoga philosophy and readings, and hasta (hand) mudras will be incorporated to deepen and enrich the outer and inner dimensions of the practice.

Beginners and long-time practitioners are welcome!

Yin Yoga is a relaxing, soothing, and healing yoga experience. It is based on the Taoist concept of yin and yang, opposite and complementary principles in nature. The yin aspect of the practice focuses on the stillness, the unmoving and unseen, the less flexible and more taut connective tissues in the body. A passive and contemplative practice, Yin Yoga involves variations of seated and supine poses typically held for 3 to 5 minutes. With a focus on stillness, yin influences the subtle energy in the body and targets mostly the hips, pelvis, inner thighs, and lower spine. Longer holds work to unwind and release the deeper, less flexible, and taut connective tissues surrounding layers of muscle, making it an effective complement to a more dynamic Yang practice.

“You need to experience this to really know what Yin Yoga is all about.

After you have experienced it, even just once, you will realize that you have been doing only half of the asana practice.

RESTORATIVE YOGA

Restorative Yoga is a deeply rejuvenating, soothing, and healing yoga experience. This very gentle floor-based practice helps to alleviate the physical and mental effects of everyday stress and brings ease to common ailments such as headaches, backaches, anxiety, and insomnia.  The spacious nature of this practice is ideal for someone who may be experiencing grief, high levels of stress, recovering from illness, or have injuries that need an even higher level of mindfulness and extra gentle movement.

Longer-held passive postures (10-15 minutes each) with the body fully supported by blankets, bolsters, straps, sand bags, and foam blocks are key foundational elements in a Restorative Yoga practice. Breath awareness (Pranayama), learning to cultivate an inward turn of the senses (Pratyahara), and exploring the deeper nonphysical layers of the body (Koshas) are some of the more subtle elements of the practice that foster prolonged inner states of Shantih: peace of body, mind, and spirit.

Beginners and longtime practitioners welcome.  All students are encouraged to move at their own pace and modifications are always offered in our studio.
