What are yoga classes really like at Black Cat Yoga?

Updated: 2 days ago

We want to share what yoga classes are really like at Black Cat Yoga.

Because they are intentionally different.

While we offer so many beautiful Kirtan and sound events, our weekly yoga classes are truly a unique offering in the Jacksonville area.

Everything we do is grounded in the essence of bhakti yoga. For us, that means moving with presence and cultivating a connection to the heart.

There are many beautiful expressions of yoga in the world. Our expression is one that invites a slower pace where all students can take time to fully be in the energy of the postures.

Yoga is rich with symbolism. We love weaving those deeper layers into our classes so the practice becomes an embodied experience that allows students to feel and understand yoga beyond just the physical shapes.

Music, yes. We weave in thoughtful songs that carry the energy of the journey. Poetry and chanting open the heart in ways words can’t. And then there are those sacred moments when silence becomes the most beautiful sound of all.

We understand how to move bodies well. We stick to solid transitions and consistent sequencing. Nothing clever or showy. Just movement that helps people come home to their bodies.

This is where props come in. We love teaching with props and showing our students how to use them in ways that feel supportive and empowering.

Does that mean you won’t be challenged? No. You will. Yoga can be deeply challenging physically, mentally, and emotionally. And it’s often in that challenge where the deepest transformation begins.

When newcomers ask us, “What class should I start with?” we always reply, “Any of them.” The question isn’t which class you “can” do. It’s what you’re looking for in your practice. More movement and flow? Or more stillness? Let that be your compass.

There are some things that simply can’t be captured in words. They have to be experienced. We know we won’t be the space for everyone. And that’s okay. There are many wonderful yoga studios here in Jacksonville. You get to choose what best supports your journey.

If this resonates with you, we invite you to come experience it for yourself.

In love and devotion,

Lisa & Kevin McCormack Co-Owners of Black Cat Yoga
